A posted scope can be any part of this. The more of it the drawings settle up front, the closer the bids come back to each other.

Board hanging — standard, moisture-resistant and abuse-resistant
Taping and finishing to a specified level
Fire-rated assemblies, shaft wall and area separation

What to check before you award

The finish level, agreed before the award: Level 4 and Level 5 differ by a skim coat across every surface. If the spec doesn't say and the bids don't say, the two numbers in front of you are not for the same job.
Rated assembly experience and listed designs: Fire-rated corridors and shaft walls have to match a specific UL design number, detail for detail. Ask which listings they've built to; an inspector certainly will.
What's bundled with the drywall: Framing, insulation and acoustic ceiling are sometimes in the drywall bid and sometimes three separate contracts. Establish it before you compare totals.

What makes a bid win this trade

Quote the finish level explicitly: Name the level you priced, and offer the Level 5 upgrade as a separate number. It makes your bid the easy one to evaluate — and it protects you from being held to a finish you didn't price.
List the rated assemblies you've built: On healthcare, hospitality and multifamily work, listed-assembly experience matters more than price and is rarely mentioned by the competition.
Say who patches after other trades: Post-trade patching is real labour that is almost never in anyone's scope. Pricing it visibly beats arguing about it in month three.
